Staying healthy on Hamilton Island

Staying Healthy on Hamilton Island.

I know what your all thinking, You live on a beautiful tropical island, getting out side and being fit must be SO easy! I mean, don't get me wrong... it does have it's perks. Like the amazing sun sets and sun rises, the lack of traffic or traffic lights, the amazing views, the hard core hills and the amazingly fresh air.
( that peak in the back ground is Passage peak... just walking it and back burns 1000 cal)

This is where I work. Spa Qualia, voted best spa in Australia! Lucky me. I have an active work life massaging all day. I wore my HRM during a massage and discovered that I burn 200 calories per hour of massage.

But I must say.. I LOVE my office!
But let me tell you some of the harder things to over come, the fact I work till 6 or 7pm 5 nights a week and miss the beautiful sun sets, the fact that everyone here is on holiday (people on holidays always indulge and every morning the smell of bacon drifts all over the island), and the hills... I know they are good for me too but dam, they are soo hard and knowing I have to face them when I run out the door makes me want to curl up into a ball and cry. I guess the hardest thing about living on the island is that I can't get groceries here, we have to do online shopping and have them delivered on my days off, but often not all ingredients are delivered. So that makes the recipes hard to do when missing main ingredients.

And one more hard thing.. the bugs... I can't count how many have flown into my mouth ... or my eyes while running... pretty gross... wanted to throw up a lot. hahaha

Until later my bloggies :)

And so it has begun

Wow, past two weeks have been hard!

I have been running every second day, about 3km. The girls at work said I should join the fun run group on a Friday afternoon... they go for a run together and run about 5.5km...
I finally worked up the courage to do it.. and man I am proud! I finished it. Almost ran the whole thing, except when I got a stitch! how amazing!

My weight loss has slowed down but now I'm at a total of 4kg loss... meaning I'm more then half way there!

I was told my uniform is now too loose and I need to get a new one. People are telling me how good I look and that I look healthier as well.

I think the hardest thing was to take the step to go exercise with other people. I know I'm not the fastest or the fittest, but I hoped I was ok to at least make it. But I'm so glad I did, because I ran it again 2 days later, and will again tomorrow and on Friday!

But check it out!! this is me ... I have collar Bones! again! yay!

I'm so glad I'm doing this... so glad that I look better, so glad I feel better, so glad to make myself proud, so glad to make my Boyfriend proud :)

Peace out!

12WBT, 2012, 12 kg

So, a lot has led to this. 4 years ago I was the girl that ate anything and the most amount of exercise I did was going shopping (those bags can get mighty heavy!)
<- That was me. Skinny, boozing, confident. and I had collar bones! look at them!!!
I was a college student, and worked part time.
Once I finished college I headed off over seas... Ireland to be exact. I put on a few kgs (the Irish LOVE their potatoes... and so do I... I mean you go to an Indian restaurant and you have the choice of rice with your curry..... or Chips! Hot, steaming, salty, oily potato chips). But luckily the weight just fell off when I worked on a cruise ship. I was over worked and super stressed. I was at my lowest grown up weight of 58kg. -------------->
Yeah I know... kind of too skinny right?

After a bit more traveling around the globe I thought it was time to head back to the mother land. I moved to Tasmania, Beautiful place, and I swear... not a second head to been seen anywhere. I was living and working on Cradle Mountain. Amazing place, Paddy Melons and Wombats everywhere. Mind you, so was amazing cheeses and wines! I got in to the habit of drinking at least 6 bottles of wine per fortnight. And not to mention that I was living on the resort and they also cooked for us.. we had an option of carbs, fried foods or fried carbs... yumo... and on packed 6kg.
<----- there I am.

After this I moved to Hamilton Island in search of a healthier life. Yes I cooked my own meals and life seemed much better... but the weight didn't shift. Soon with itchy feet I headed off over seas to go to the 'Burning Man' in USA and visit some friends in Ireland and take Spanish lessons in Barcelona. Only thing... I added another 6kgs to my over weight weight. Making me at my most around 76kg. ----------------------> This is me at Burning Man amazing festival in the desert of Nevada. I can't believe I put this photo up.. my god... look at those rolls!

I came back to Australia much larger then I wanted to be. And worst of all I have a loving boyfriend to come home to and I had doubled in size.. Poor thing

Anyway all good.. once we moved in together I got some of Michelle's cook books and started working on those... knocked of 6kg so fast! it was amazing. and the I plateaued, and honestly, I just gave up.
So this is where I am now... Down 6kgs an other 6 to go. I tired of this bloody muffin top... I tired of hearing clapping when I run stairs.Enough is enough. I want to feel like me again.. feel comfortable wearing anything. and feel SEXY again.

So I have signed up for the 12 week body transformation. I'm not letting this weight beat me, I am NOT taking this weight with me. I am done with it.

I'm in pre season atm. I have started running. And running hard... The hills on Hamilton Island are INSANE!! I've signed up to the fun run training. I want to be able to run without dieing..

Let the journey begin!!!!
